“It is a terrible thing, this kindess that human beings do not lose. Terrible, because when we are finally naked in the dark and cold, it is all we have. We who are so rich, so full of strength, we end up with that small change. We have nothing else to give. ”
--Ursula K. Le Guin
The Madwoman Collective's
MUTUAL AID NETWORK
The Madwoman Collective at its core operates as a mutual aid network for women and nonbinary artists, writers, academics, creatives, and activists. It is a community organized horizontally with each role and contribution valued equally.
The mission of the collective's mutual aid network is to create the means for women and nonbinary folk in the arts and humanities to pursue and succeed in the work they want to do with the support of an intersectional feminist community.
With the state of the arts and humanities being what it is, the collective's mutual aid network serves as a community of support for women and nonbinary folk to achieve the means they need to get published, have their voices heard, navigate applying to graduate programs and jobs, and engage in effective activism. Together, the collective supports each other and works together to accomplish every project pitched by a member. Artists collaborate with writers to design art for articles and stories, social media works with artists to show their work, writers and academics peer edit work, graduate students mentor undergraduate students with applications, all members share knowledge from their areas of expertise and experience. And together we create content to contribute to the overall intersectional feminist discourse.
